Sea of Thieves teases new additions ahead of Season 2's launch next week
Sea of Thieves will be raising anchor and embarking on its second official season - bringing new content, fresh player progression, and associated rewards - next Thursday, 15th April. There's not a lot to report on Season 2 just yet, but - barring minor tweaks to the formula - it should continue the template established by Sea of Thieves' current, inaugural season, offering a three-month-long schedule of content updates and events, built around a fresh battle pass. Expect another 100 levels of rewards in the free tier - progressed through by completing various activities while out on the ocean - plus a small selection of Pirate Emporium goodies and exclusive cosmetics that can be unlocked by purchasing the paid Plunder Pass. It would take 4,000 hours to beat every PC game on Xbox Game Pass
Xbox Game Pass continues to be hailed as the best game subscription around - like right now, I'm hailing it as exactly that right now - but what is its precise value in cold, hard numbers? Just how much gaming time do you get for your money? We've done the math, and it seems the PC edition of Xbox Game Pass, priced at $9.99 USD per month, gets you over 4,000 hours worth of videogames, which comes out to about a quarter of one US penny per gameplay hour.

A month into Sea of Thieves' first battle pass season, Rare's multiplayer pirate adventure will receive its first mid-season update, introducing a new limited-time event and associated rewards, various new Pirate Emporium goodies, plus another charity sail sale, this time with proceeds going to Great Ormond Street Hospital. Sea of Thieves' latest update arrives today, 18th February, and aims to keep things fresh while players progress through the three-month-long Season One's 100 levels of rewards by introducing a new themed event inspired by the Hunter's Call trading company The Festival of Fishing, as it's known, runs from next Thursday, 25th February, to 18th February, and gives pirates a chance to earn new fishing rods inspired by the Gold Hoarder, Merchant Alliance, and Order of Souls trading companies - as well as a fourth rod based on the Frostbite cosmetics set - by completing various fishing-related challenges. Rare gives detailed breakdown of Sea of Thieves' new Seasons updates and battle pass
Sea of Thieves is launching its new seasonal content schedule and battle-pass-style progression system this Thursday, 28th January, and, in preparation, Rare has served up a handily informative breakdown of everything in store, hopefully answering any lingering questions pirates may have before raising anchor and setting sail later this week. Each season, as announced previously, will last approximately three months, each bringing a fresh dollop of content (in Thursday's case, a new voyage-type for the much-maligned Merchant Alliance), as well as new live events, and most notably, a new 100-level progression system. Rare says Sea of Thieves' new three-month content release schedule will allow it to "craft more meaningful experiences...and return to a more predictable rhythm of release." However, it also notes the game will continue to receive smaller monthly updates, delivering bug fixes, quality of life improvements, and new stock for the Pirate Emporium. Read more

Sea of Thieves' Festival of Giving closes out the year with seasonal challenges and rewards
Sea of Thieves has just received its final monthly update of the year - titled the Festival of Giving - and it sees the ocean's denizen getting firmly into the festive spirit with seasonally appropriate challenges, cosmetics, and more. Alas, it's the third monthly update in a row without any notable new feature additions, but it does offer up another calendar of activities and rewards to keep pirates busy through the holiday season and into the new year while Rare finalises its recently announced battle pass. Starting today, 9th December, players can embark on the 12 Deeds of Giving, a series of daily challenges very loosely inspired by the old classic Christmas ditty.

Sea of Thieves is getting a battle pass and Seasons starting early next year
It's all change on the Sea of Thieves starting in January next year, as Rare's piratical multiplayer experience goes the way of countless other online games, adopting a new battle-pass-style progression system and new Seasons content release model. Before all that, though, there's some disappointing news for fans of the PvP-based Arena mode; Rare has announced that all future Sea of Thieves updates will focus on expanding the game's more popular Adventure mode, meaning that while Arena mode will still be available, all development will cease - a sad fate for what started out as a brilliantly chaotic, rapid-fire alternative to the core game, but one that struggled to overcome myriad technical issues and, later, an unfavourably streamlined reworking robbed of the original's adventuring spirit. That, then, firmly places the focus back on Adventure mode, and the debut of Rare's new Seasons model in January.
