Turn a grim laundromat into a bustling 90s arcade in Vostok Inc. dev's Arcade Paradise
Vostok Inc. developer Nosebleed Interactive is trading space-capitalism for retro-tinged arcade management in its newly unveiled Arcade Paradise, coming to PC and consoles later this year. In Arcade Paradise, players are cast as Ashley, a teenager trying to transform the family's small-town laundromat into a bustling retro arcade, somewhere in the 1990s. What follows is a game of two halves; on the one side, Ashley will need to complete dull chores - washing clothes, clearing out the rubbish, cleaning toilets (all given a suitably entertaining mini-game twist) - in order to raise the money needed to turn the King Wash laundromat into a booming arcade hangout, managing the business and investing profits along the way. Raiders Of The Lost Games. Between the eclectic selection of NES and SNES games served up as part of everyone’s Nintendo Switch Online subscription, Fire Emblem's long-awaited (if time-limited) English language release thirty years after its Japanese debut, and the upcoming remake of their Disc System adventure game Famicom Detective Club, it seems clear Nintendo is not only able but also more than willing to make the effort to dive into its extensive back catalogue in the search for old titles. Whether it's bringing these lost gems to a fresh international audience for the first time or digging up retro curiosities which are deserving a head-to-toe remake after decades languishing on plastic platters and silicon chips, it seem that a game’s age, genre, or current obscurity apparently are no barrier to its re-release potential. That means an increased level cap of 70 (Classic players will actually outlevel players on the modern game, which has had the cap squished to 60); an inter-dimensional adventure through the Dark Portal to the trippy, broken world of Outland; the addition of the Blood Elf and Draenei races; arena player-versus-player, flying mounts and more. Axiom Verge 2 launching on Switch and as an Epic exclusive on PC this "spring"
Axiom Verge 2, the eagerly anticipated follow-up to developer Thomas Happ's acclaimed retro-styled Metroid-a-like, will be making its debut on Switch and PC - in the latter case as an Epic Games Store exclusive - some time this spring. Axiom Verge 2 - which was already four years in the making when it was announced last year - builds upon the original's elegant blend of familiar nostalgia-tweaking Metroid staples and clever twists with the likes of new characters, enemies, powers, and an entirely new world. Somewhere in Antarctica lies "what appears to be an ancient, alternate Earth, complete with mountains, lakes, deserts, and the ruins of a civilisation," according to Happ, "but you get the feeling that something else is lurking just past the fringes of reality, waiting to pull you in." Cult-classic management sim sequel Evil Genius 2 gets ten-minute gameplay trailer
Evil Genius 2: World Domination - the Rebellion-developed sequel to Elixir Studios' cult-classic management sim - is rapidly closing in on its 30th March release date, and as part of its pre-launch promotional blitz, Rebellion has now served up ten minutes of gameplay in a new developer video. Evil Genius 2 follows a similar formula to its much-loved 2004 predecessor, blending base building and real-time defense as players - cast as a criminal mastermind - oversee the running of their evil lair, boss around minions, thwart do-gooders, and build a doomsday device in a bid to achieve global domination. Rebellion's sequel retains the comedic tone and appealing retro stylings of its predecessor, but introduces new villains, henchmen, agents, room types, and traps - and keen-eyed observers might spot a few of those in Rebellion's new gameplay trailer.
