Tencent's Timi Studios, the studio behind Call of Duty Mobile and Honor of Kings, generated revenue of $10 billion - £7.23bn - in 2020. Reuters, which broke the story, reports that if true, that makes Timi "the world's largest developer", providing the studio with "a hefty basis for its ambitions to move beyond mobile games and compete directly with global heavyweights developing expensive AAA titles on platforms such as desktop computers, Sony's PlayStation, Nintendo's Switch and Microsoft's Xbox". The news comes after Tencent publicly reported it had generated 156.1 billion yuan (£17 billion) in revenue from its game business, but stopped short of revealing the revenue for each individual studio.

Intel's 11th generation Rocket Lake-S gaming CPUs are now out in the wild, but how does the last of its 14nm chips fare against the previous generation? This time around, Intel has backported the 10nm arrangement we previously saw on Ice Lake mobile processors, which means it's taken the core design of its smaller fabrication and stuffed it into the larger process. The flagship i9 11900K carries a swollen $539 MSRP compared to the previous generation's $488.

Psyonix's four-wheeled footie phenomenon Rocket League is heading to iOS and Android in the guise of "all-new" free-to-play spin-off Rocket League Sideswipe. Sideswipe, which has been "built from the ground up for mobile", promises to deliver the competitive car-based football action of the original Rocket League, albeit with number of changes intended to make the experience more palatable on mobile devices. Leaked screenshots of the reboot emerged a year later, but the game sailed right through its originally planned 2016 release window with barely a peep.

Gaming laptop stock begins to struggle with increased demand from crypto miners
If you're looking to pick up the best gaming laptop at some point this year, you might want to take the plunge sooner rather than later, as they’re starting to suffer from the same unavailability as the best graphics card. While gamers have endured ongoing GPU stock issues for quite some time, gaming laptop stock is similarly plummeting as Digitimes notes a surge in demand from crypto miners. Although the desktop RTX 3060 is nerfed against Ethereum mining, the mobile variant of the 3060 isn't, making some of the latest gaming laptops look much more attractive for miners, despite their subpar cooling solutions compared to a dedicated mining PC. Still, gaming laptop stock isn't quite as depleted as GPUs just yet - a quick search on Amazon shows there are still plenty of RTX 30-based laptops in stock and available at MSRP prices.
